I think that we do not have lesson planning regularly. Actually, I have had it three or four times so far. Of course, it is important to have over lesson planning because it give us to teach students detailly and confidently. However, I think that we do not have to do it continuously because it does not meet our actual planning to teach the examination of college enterance. sometimes I think It is necessary to learn the methodology for teachers.

Lesson planning and curriculum development are up to me. But my work is limited within my school’s textbook. I should cover all lessons of the textbook.

At all times, I have the whole responsibility to make my own lesson plans on how to teach in my class. However I have limited rights to establish some parts of the curriculum of my subject, for example the extra cost for teaching, the equipment, a teaching place, etc.

I can control much on lesson planning within the time and the context. But we cannot control curriculum development much . Becuase the school asks teachers to write the process and the topic, goal according to the school year calendar. So actually it cannot be practical but typical. That makes me I don’t care much about curriculum development. Without each classes’ lesson planning, I have taught and control the class.

At every begining of a new period, I make a lesson plan. But, in fact, I don’t always use my lesson plan when I teach English in the classroom. Probably most English teachers in Korea do so like me. I think it is not a good habit. To teach English with a lesson plan can be well-prepared class. So we can make some mistakes when we teach English without a lesson plan. For instance, our mistakes follows: variety, sequence, pacing, timing.

About lesson planning I can make as much change as possible within the textbook content. But I cannot change the curriculum at all, which is the main problem for our education.

When we make a lesson plan or curriculum in our school, English teachers discuss this together.Specifically, including assessments, we plan and discuss and decide the procedure and the contents based on our text-book considering the schedule of our school. So we have proper balance to participate and control about lesson plan.

I have been in charge of the third grade for more than 15 years, so I had no choice but to make the students prepare the Korean S.A.T. I didn’t have enough control to the class more interesting, in other words I couldn’t employ a new method to improve the quality of my class. I couldn’t have enough time to take of those whose ability is lower than that of others.

It is not an exggeration to say that I always feel frustrated in teaching without finding any good method for those whose interests are so various and different.

I have a strong power to make lesson planning but curriculum development in my school is another. I can make lesson plans at any time but curriculum develpment in my school is under control of SMOE (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education)
